Coffee, Camera, Conversation

Our March CCC get together has been changed to Saturday the 23 March due to many cafes being closed over Easter. Because it’s still fairly hot we’ll meet at 8 o’clock at the shelter shed opposite the Bucasia Beachfront Bar and Grill. There’s lots of bird life and the tide will be good for beach shots. Naturally if you want to come earlier you are most welcome. We’ll finish up around 9:30-10:00 for coffee or a late breakfast. Hope to see you there next Saturday.

Woodturners Outing.

Just an update on our Woodturners outing. Unfortunately, the Sunday has had to be postponed. I have notified all those people who were coming on the Sunday. For Tuesday we will meet at 9 o’clock outside the building in Snow Wright Court, North Mackay. Please remember to wear closed in shoes. I have no idea how many turners will be there as it is a bit of potluck who turns up on the day. Have a chat and ask permission before taking any photographs. They have a break around 10 for morning tea. Thank you to those who have said they will bring something along. I would recommend bring your own cup for tea or coffee.

Mackay Woodturners

Our March outing is to the Mackay Woodturners. This group is made up of very talented artists who create pieces from bowls to toys and jewelry. I have spread this outing over two days to accommodate more people. The dates are Tuesday 5th and Sunday 10th of March.

The woodturners are open between 9 and 12 o’clock. Depending on our numbers I may have to allocate times to people. It’s a fairly big space, but we don’t want to be getting in each other’s way. More importantly we don’t want to crowd the artists at work. Please listen to any instructions from the turners as it may be for safety reasons. There is also some old timber cutting equipment at the back of the building. You must wear closed in shoes for this outing.

I thought it might be nice for us to bring morning tea to share with the turners. Please let me know if you can help with this.

It is very important that I get definite numbers for this outing. RSVP by this Friday 1 March with your preferred day. I already have a number of people for Tuesday. Respond to: outings@creativeshots.com.au

Flat Lay Workshop.

If you weren’t there you missed out on a fun morning at the Flat Lay photography session. We had scones dressed up in country style, elegant cafe or high tea style. Asian fish were arranged creatively casting interesting shadows. Herb arrangements, fruit arrangements and spice set ups were cleverly done. I’m always amazed by everyone’s creativity. We are blessed to be in a club with talented people.

We even had carrot cake, not to photograph but to enjoy with a cuppa. The conversation and camaraderie were worth the effort to get there and the photography was the icing on the cake.

Food Flatlay Workshop Is Going Ahead

We have enough attendees now for the Food Flat Lay Workshop to go ahead. Thanks to all who sent in an RSVP.

All the details again.

  • Date: Saturday, February 17, 2024
  • Time: 9:00 am until Noon
  • Venue: Normal Meeting Room – Jubilee Centre
  • Bring Your Own Props: This workshop encourages you to bring your props to use and share with others.
  • Flat Lay Essentials: Flat lays are all about layering. Please bring along the following:
    • 1 x background (something to put down as a base – so you don’t get the floor surface in your image)
    • Plates/dishes to display food
    • Food items
    • Accessories like spoons, napkins, etc.
    • If your food is wet or messy, consider bringing paper towels/wipes/dustpan for cleanup.

Camera/Lighting Gear to Bring:

  • Tripod: If you have one, it can be extremely beneficial for stability.
  • Boom Arm: If your tripod has a boom arm, it’s especially helpful for overhead shots.
  • Shutter Release: A shutter release or remote can minimize camera shake during shots.
  • Suitable Lenses: Consider bringing lenses suitable for the workshop, such as:
    • Macro lens for close-up details.
    • A versatile lens like 24-105mm for various perspectives.
    • A prime lens like a 50mm for capturing crisp details and beautiful bokeh.
  • Lighting Options: We’ll have a few lighting setups for you to experiment with, but natural light is also available. You can bring your own light sources if you have them.

Having the right gear will enhance your experience and allow you to explore different angles and compositions during the Food Flat Lay Workshop.

Optional Morning Tea: Feel free to bring a SMALL plate to share for morning tea if you’d like, although it’s not necessary.
