2024 People’s Choice Exhibition – ‘Mackay Captured’
The club’s 2024 People’s Choice Exhibition theme is ‘Mackay Captured’ and will be displayed at the Gordon White Library in December and January. It encompasses the Mackay area from Seaforth to Sarina and out to Eungella.
Digital images are needed by midnight on Tuesday 8 October to select the images to be printed for the exhibition. It would be great if we could have at lease one image submitted from all our members, but up to 3 would be great as there is plenty of room on the wall. There is no limit on time of when the image was taken.
Please name your files: Your Name_Name Of Phtoto
To streamline the process this year we are using Dropbox File Request. Soon you will receive an email asking for images to be uploaded to Dropbox. Click on the ”Upload files’ button and either drag and drop your images into the dialog box, or click on ‘Add files’ to navigate to your files. Click on the ‘Upload’ button and your files will be uploaded to Dropbox. You don’t need a Dropbox account to submit your images this way.
We will let everyone know which images they need to have printed and the printing requirements asap after selection. The printed images are needed to be delivered to the 20 November meeting, or an alternative drop off organised if you can’t make it.

AI Image Critique Exercise Using ChatGPT
Our club AI guru Michele, is conducting an exercise using the ChatGPT AI app to analyse a sample of our images and see what what type of critique it provides.
If you would like to participate, please email your image (taken anytime, any subject), to Michele at jacksonstockphotography@gmail.com by midnight on 18th September to allow time for the results to be presented at the 16 October meeting.

Bowen Long Weekend
Don’t forget the Bowen Long Weekend Outing coming up on October 4-7th. You may not be able to come up for this amount of time, but it is always a nice time away in Bowen’s picturesque beaches. There is six of us staying at Tropical Beach Caravan Park which may be full by now, but there is plenty of accommodations in the beach area.

An Evening under the Stars
We are so lucky to have Janice hosting a night of Astro Photography. We will meet in the carpark at Sarina boat ramp at 7pm on Saturday the 28th of September. Make sure you have insect repellent.
What to bring: Camera, Wide angle lens-if you have two to choose from, bring the one with the largest aperture (smallest f/ number), tripod, remote trigger release (optional).
Before you come, work out how to set your camera to manual exposure and manual focus and how to adjust your tripod.
To save time on the night, if you are unsure about camera settings, text Janice on 0419691005 with your camera and lens models (include your lens’ largest aperture).
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from a fellow club member and pray to the weather gods for a clear night.

Mystery Location Outing
On Saturday, 7th September we are having a mystery location outing. We’ll meet outside RARE Restaurant in Victoria Street at 5pm. From there I will take you to our mystery location. Don’t worry it’s not too far.
Bring your tripod as it will be a relatively low light shoot. Objects for still life photography, such as, vintage kitchen items, dried flowers, grasses would be great. We will also make available some very different photography scenarios.
This space is truly unique in Mackay and would be great for adult portraits. So, if you like, bring along someone you would love to photograph.
Space in the location is limited so we need to cap numbers. The first 6 members to respond will be accepted. If very popular I may be able to run the outing again on Sunday. This space may not come up again so get in quick.

Updated CSPC Competition Guidelines
Recent changes have been made to the Creative Shots Competition Guidelines to reflect a change in the Judging Criteria. This change will allow for circumstances where an image awarded Out of Category because it doesn’t meet the definition of the category, may be entered in a subsequent club competition, once the issue with the image is resolved e.g. technical errors fixed or image entered in a suitable category.
Another small change has been made to specify that images accepted in previous Creative Shots Photo Club competitions, or images considered by the committee to be substantially the same, are ineligible for entry in any of the sections of a current club competition. There was some confusion with members thinking this guideline meant they couldn’t enter their club competition images in the Qld Interclub, when there is no restriction on that.

Upcoming Outings
The year is rapidly coming to an end and the weather is fantastic. We have two outings coming up which will need bookings made. The first is next Sunday to Seaforth. I do realize this is Father’s Day so I’ve tried to make it a family friendly outing. The plan is to meet at Mount Jukes Family Farm for lunch around 11:30am. It opens at 12pm. After lunch we will go to either Seaforth or Cape Hillsborough depending on your interest. We will definitely need to book Mount Jukes as it is very busy.
Bowen Long Weekend
The long weekend is from 5th October to the 7th but some of us have booked at Tropical Beach Caravan Park from the 4th to the 7th. The park has cabins as well as camping. I have just checked their website and there are still cabins available. I wouldn’t leave it much later to book if you are coming. It’s always a good weekend away.
Bowen has beautiful beaches and amazing sunsets and sunrises. Drone photography would be well worth a try. Collinsville is also worth a visit.

September 2024 Club Competition Closes Wednesday 21 August
A quick reminder that The September 2024 CSPC competition closes at midnight on Wednesday 21 August 2024 in My Photo Club. Competition categories are:
- Open Colour
- Monochrome
- Creative
- Set Subject:
- Pastels – Pastel colours have enough white mixed into them to take away the saturation and turn them into a pale version of colours. Using pastels often results in more elegance and delicacy, especially if taken in soft diffused light. Images can be flowers, architecture, portraits, animals, or even landscapes.
