Mystery Location Outing

On Saturday, 7th September we are having a mystery location outing. We’ll meet outside RARE Restaurant in Victoria Street at 5pm. From there I will take you to our mystery location. Don’t worry it’s not too far.

Bring your tripod as it will be a relatively low light shoot. Objects for still life photography, such as, vintage kitchen items, dried flowers, grasses would be great. We will also make available some very different photography scenarios.

This space is truly unique in Mackay and would be great for adult portraits. So, if you like, bring along someone you would love to photograph.

Space in the location is limited so we need to cap numbers. The first 6 members to respond will be accepted. If very popular I may be able to run the outing again on Sunday. This space may not come up again so get in quick.

Updated CSPC Competition Guidelines

Recent changes have been made to the Creative Shots Competition Guidelines to reflect a change in the Judging Criteria. This change will allow for circumstances where an image awarded Out of Category because it doesn’t meet the definition of the category, may be entered in a subsequent club competition, once the issue with the image is resolved e.g. technical errors fixed or image entered in a suitable category.

Another small change has been made to specify that images accepted in previous Creative Shots Photo Club competitions, or images considered by the committee to be substantially the same, are ineligible for entry in any of the sections of a current club competition. There was some confusion with members thinking this guideline meant they couldn’t enter their club competition images in the Qld Interclub, when there is no restriction on that.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me about it by email at comps@creativeshots.com.au or call 0412 398250.

Upcoming Outings

The year is rapidly coming to an end and the weather is fantastic. We have two outings coming up which will need bookings made. The first is next Sunday to Seaforth. I do realize this is Father’s Day so I’ve tried to make it a family friendly outing. The plan is to meet at Mount Jukes Family Farm for lunch around 11:30am. It opens at 12pm. After lunch we will go to either Seaforth or Cape Hillsborough depending on your interest. We will definitely need to book Mount Jukes as it is very busy.

Please contact me ASAP if you are definitely coming. Ph: 0407368827.

Bowen Long Weekend

The long weekend is from 5th October to the 7th but some of us have booked at Tropical Beach Caravan Park from the 4th to the 7th. The park has cabins as well as camping. I have just checked their website and there are still cabins available. I wouldn’t leave it much later to book if you are coming. It’s always a good weekend away.

Bowen has beautiful beaches and amazing sunsets and sunrises. Drone photography would be well worth a try. Collinsville is also worth a visit.

Please email me if you intend to join us in Bowen.

Cheers Helen.

PS. Don’t forget CCC at the Harbour this Saturday. Meeting at Casu Jacks at 8:30am.

September 2024 Club Competition Closes Wednesday 21 August

A quick reminder that The September 2024 CSPC competition closes at midnight on Wednesday 21 August 2024 in My Photo Club. Competition categories are:

  • Open Colour
  • Monochrome
  • Creative
  • Set Subject:
    • Pastels – Pastel colours have enough white mixed into them to take away the saturation and turn them into a pale version of colours. Using pastels often results in more elegance and delicacy, especially if taken in soft diffused light. Images can be flowers, architecture, portraits, animals, or even landscapes.

More detailed information on how to enter and the club competition guidelines is in the 2024 Club Competitions and Guidelines post.

If you are having trouble uploading images, please give me a call on 0412 398250 so I can help resolve any issues.

Wetlands Walkabout

Check out Belinda’s post on our Creative Shots Members page on Facebook. It looks like a great excuse to dust off the camera and support a local business. You never know what you might come across at these wetlands, maybe something to use in our end of year exhibition. So, get out there and shoot, just not the birds!! Thanks for arranging this Belinda.

Cheers Helen.

CSPC Dates 2024 – August Update

Here is a link to the updated CSPC 2024 date list for July.

by Karen Monk, August 6, 2024

Shoal Point Sunset

Saturday the 10th of August is our Shoal Point Sunset Outing. What better way to finish the day than with a cold drink sitting on the beach at Shoal Point. Don’t forget your camera, tripod and filters to capture shots for the end of year ‘Outings Competition’. There have been some stunning sunsets lately and with a bit of smoke and maybe some clouds Shoal Point won’t disappoint.

We’ll meet at the park at Shoal Point at 5:30pm to find the best vantage point. The tide will be dropping so there could be some nice leading lines created by the sandbanks. The top of the hill can also be good for sunsets. It has been suggested that dinner could be ordered from ‘ Oceans Basket’ to finish off the evening. Please let me know by Friday if you are coming so we have an idea of numbers.

Ideas on Suggested Themes for 2025 Qld Interclub

The Qld Interclub organisers have asked participating clubs to put forward suggestions for the 2025 competition, for the 3 changeable categories. We only need to put forward 3 suggestions to Qld Interclub, but we’ll keep note of the others as possibilities for our own club competitions.

Here are some suggestions that have been put forward so far (some descriptions need more work).

  • Abandoned and Forgotten – Images of abandoned buildings, vehicles, objects or living things that have been left to the ravages of time, demonstrating the hidden beauty or eerie mood in these left behind and forgotten about subjects.
  • Abstract – Abstract images focus on elements such as colour, form, texture, and composition to evoke emotions, ideas, and impressions. They use perspective, movement, and light to transform the world we see into an unexpected, often unrecognizable image.
  • Silhouettes – Images showing the dark and dramatic outlines of subjects against vibrant backgrounds.
  • Silent Histories – Capturing the artistry, atmosphere and hidden stories of memorial grounds.
  • Hidden Symmetry – Finding unexpected balance in everyday scenes.
  • Shadows and Light – Dramatic interplay between illumination and darkness

Please email comps@creativeshots.com.au by 3 August 2024, with which suggestions you like or if you have any suggestions.
